Workshop
Basics of medical clowning
The workshop uses unique methodology Amnon developed over more than two decades of work with students of medical clowning, theatre arts, expressive therapies, and medicine, in various universities. The workshop comprises the theory (lecture) and practice (hands-on basics) of medical clowning: pleasure, active listening, “diag-red-nosis,” empathy, rapport, interaction, improvisation, gags, humor and fantasy, working with the medical care team, and work in medical procedures in the treatment rooms. The workshop emphasizes internal processes the practitioner must undergo as a necessary foundation for working as a medical clown.

Lecture
My journey as a medical clown
In this lecture, Amnon Raviv describes the many milestones along his journey as a medical clown. He includes many photographs and video clips photographed by patients and their families in the various medical units in their encounters with Amnon. These are funny and sad yet inspiring encounters in departments for those with life-threatening and incurable illness, at different stages of coping with their illness. In several cases, Amnon shows scenes of a last goodbye during final hours of life, in which he is fully present for the patient. To conclude, Amnon presents sections from his doctoral dissertation on medical clowning with patients with life-threatening and incurable illness, his findings, conclusions, and recommendations for the future.
